Shannon Hughs began exploring her gifts as a painter by creating representational pieces influenced by her work in floral and interior design.  As she studied with experienced teachers, she found unexpected parallels between the work of art she was producing and the emotional work of self discovery, growth and healing. "Deciding what to keep and what to remove, finding rhythm and choosing beauty, " she says, "those practices were like the gentle advice of a good friend or wise, loving parent."

She began creating abstract pieces in 2018. The change – from seeing a blank canvas as a challenge to replicate what was before her to an opportunity to explore what was within her – was both intimidating and exhilarating. Her works are highly coveted and use texture, color and movement to elicit an emotional response and connection.
